Well as people may or may not know my life is still uncontrollably chaotic and busy, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy on radio, with the Heron Corn Mill (GB4HCM) Mills on the Air event, sorting out the new shack, and sorting out a few other contests and DXpeditions, including my first trip to Aran in Scotland in Sept.

I've changed the header image as some may have noticed this is to reflect the move of QTH, as a shot taken by my Daughter is good, but no longer appropriate to the QTH so I've gone generic. I will also be adding more over the next few weeks including training material, as Our (Kev G6FKE and M0ZIF) training groups are busy, we have 1 student doing an Advanced ticket an then 5 foundation tickets as well. I am proud to say we are happy with our 100% pass rate todate and intend on keeping it that way.

Out with the Old In with the New

So Tuesday Morning saw the post, the largest envelope there was one marked "Radio Society Of Great Britain" I sat on the Sofa looking at the envelope thinking do I ask Kath to open it? or not, The moment of Dread had arrived. So I thought Well here goes nothing. I opened the letter and expected the pink results sheet to have two signitures on the left hand side, instead there wasn't. It took me a good 30 seconds to realise that they must be on the Right hand side then, looked and yes they where, which meant I'd passed!!

As I'd already been working on the Laptop I pulled OfCom licencing straight up and had a look to see what callsigns where available, and was dissapointed that anything I considered usable was gone, It certainly looks as if there is very few left. So M0ZIF (Mike Zero Zulu Indigo Foxtrot) its is. So now I can use full power should I really want to (not likely) I can use all the amateur bands, I can apply to run a Mailbox (already ongoing) and I have 3 callsigns.

How does it feel is the question. Darn good, I didn't in truth expect to pass.

Application For RSGB Tutor Status

Earlier this week I applied to become an RSGB Tutor, So as soon as the CRB check comes back it shouldn't be a problem. So hopefully I will be able to teach by April

North West Radio Clubs

New SDR for Primary Users

Harris Corporation, have just announced TETRA SDR HT radios. What this meens for Amateurs is not a lot but for users like Police Ambulance Fire Service RNLI Red Cross St Johns WRVS RayNet Other Blue Light Services The Harris Unity XG-100 HT radio will kill off the need for PMR's in Rest Centers and much more, covering 136-870mhz utilizing TETRA (TErrrestrial Trunked RAdio) For more information have a look at Harris's Site
